Danna’s Coming Out Story from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

By day, Danna is a music producer who works on various projects around New York City. By night you can find her DJing for the biggest gay, lesbian and mixed queer parties around the NYC (and Boston) under the name, Whitney Day. Growing up in NYC, Danna had a relatively easy time coming to terms with her sexuality, though it took her parents some time to get used to the idea. They are now completely supportive. Because she grew up in a very diverse and open-minded community, Danna found it easy to come out to her friends. And now, Danna is building a lucrative career as a DJ and knows that the bar/club/event culture in the LGBTQ community is pivotal. She finds it to be a privilege to play music for her own community where people embrace their differences and be themselves. Please watch Danna’s story, and visit her websites:

Hillary’s Coming Out Story from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

Hillary, one of my oldest friends, grew up in a suburb south of Boston. Though we shared our childhood years together, it wasn’t until recently that we both discovered that we were both gay! Therefore, I knew I had to interview her for this project! Hillary had an epiphany at summer camp at age 15 when she discovered that a fellow female camper had feelings for her. She went through the next few years dating both men and women, and she now defines herself as gay. A talented musician, Hillary started writing music as a teenager and was a member of an a capella group in college. She now lives in Brooklyn with her longtime girlfriend and works for pingg.com. Check out Hillary’s story!

Jill’s Coming Out Story from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

Jill Bennett is a gorgeous, talented, and remarkably intelligent out actress in Hollywood. Originally from Indiana, Jill studied theater at Bradley University in Illinois and came out to her friends and family at 19. Although it took her mom a few years to accept her sexuality, Jill, courageously, never made any apologies for living her life the way she knew she should. For this reason, among many, she is a huge role model in the lesbian community. The support and dedication that she has for her many adoring fans proves that she also has an enormous heart. Jill is unafraid of sharing her opinions with the world, which makes her a fearless leader for so many women who are scared to come out. Jill’s story is powerful and inspiring; her tenacity and courage are awe-inspiring, and she is undoubtedly making a huge difference in the world and in the LGBTQ community by simply being herself and fighting for what she believes in. Julian posted his coming out story on youtube about 6 months ago. He grew up in Sacramento, California, and then moved to southern Oregon in his teens. He came out to his friends and family when he was 16. Julian told his female cousin first, who reacted positively and then his twin brother who did not take it as well at first. Now, his twin understands the importance of Julian being true to himself. After coming out to everyone in his life, Julian realizes that not everyone will accept him, but he will never let that compromise his being honest and proud of who he is. Julian is currently a Communications major in college and plans on becoming a novelist.

Jack, 18

Published by beckatz on July 30th, 2009 - in Video Stories

Jack is another amazing young man who posted his coming out story on youtube. He began making video-blogs in December of 2008, and this was the first video that he shared. Jack is from Australia and first came out to new friends during a trip to Japan when he was 16. After receiving a positive reaction and finding confidence in himself, he decided to tell his friends at school and then his parents. Jack’s friends and his mom are very supportive, as is his dad though he’s never come out to him aloud. Jack’s story is one of bravery, strength, and beautiful candidness. He is truly inspirational!
