Hillary’s Coming Out Story from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

Hillary, one of my oldest friends, grew up in a suburb south of Boston. Though we shared our childhood years together, it wasn’t until recently that we both discovered that we were both gay! Therefore, I knew I had to interview her for this project! Hillary had an epiphany at summer camp at age 15 when she discovered that a fellow female camper had feelings for her. She went through the next few years dating both men and women, and she now defines herself as gay. A talented musician, Hillary started writing music as a teenager and was a member of an a capella group in college. She now lives in Brooklyn with her longtime girlfriend and works for pingg.com. Check out Hillary’s story!

Edgar’s Coming Out Story from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

Edgar grew up in El Paso, Texas, where he had no gay role models or gay friends. He hinted that he was gay to a few of his close friends during his senior year in high school, who were all supportive, but he waited a while before telling anyone else. Ultimately, it was his experience at NYU that pushed him out of the closet. He came out to his parents, both of whom are Mexican and Catholic, while home for his winter vacation. Although it took some time for his mother to get comfortable with her son’s sexuality, she is now fully supportive of Edgar and his partner. Edgar believes that being honest and patient with yourself are the keys to coming out in a healthy way. He is intelligent, articulate, and fabulous! Watch his story now!

Cat’s Coming Out Story from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

Cat Davis is a hilarious out stand-up comedian and beautiful, uber-smart gay lady. Her positive energy is contagious, and her humor is both inviting and quick. Cat grew up in Indiana where she encountered a lot of pressure to date boys. In high school, she began to realize that she might be gay but didn’t come out until she was 20 and in college. Cat had a very positive experience coming out at an East-Coast Ivy League university where she was a member of a sorority. She describes the women in her sorority as 100% supportive despite their many diverse backgrounds and beliefs. Cat also talks about the incredibly moving experience of coming out to her grandmother. Cat’s story is both serious and funny, strong and emotional. Please watch her fabulous story and check out her hysterical comedy at:

Jill Bennett is a gorgeous, talented, and remarkably intelligent out actress in Hollywood. Originally from Indiana, Jill studied theater at Bradley University in Illinois and came out to her friends and family at 19. For this reason, among many, she is a huge role model in the lesbian community. The support and dedication that she has for her many adoring fans proves that she also has an enormous heart. Liza and Deb, Part 1

Liza and Deb’s Coming Out Stories from I Want the World to Know on Vimeo.

Deb and Liza live together in Cambridge, MA, and are the proud parents of George and Bryn–a German Shepherd and Puerto Rican street dog. They met in 2007 and are planning their wedding for January 2010. Deb, of Chinese and Italian descent, struggled for years with her sexuality and finally came out after college with the help of her co-worker. Her twin brother, Rob, is also gay and their family supports them, though her mother once thought that “Chinese people couldn’t be gay.” Liza also had a difficult time coming to terms with her sexuality. She grew up in New Hampshire where she says there were no out gay people, which made it difficult to be aware that alternate sexualities existed. After graduate school and a lot of soul searching, Liza’s friend advised her to date women, and Deb was the first woman Liza brought home. Needless to say, they have found much support from their families and friends who will all be attending their winter wedding!

Stay tuned to hear Deb and Liza’s proposal story!
